ConsultationCTD Home > Student & Faculty Services > Consultation Individual ConsultationsTA training includes a feedback conference with a TA consultant following observation of the TA's classroom and review and analysis of student feedback. These consultations are conducted individually with a CTD staff member, although in some departments, consultations may also include the departmental Senior TA. All consultations are confidential. The purpose of the consultation is explicitly non-evaluative. We believe that all instructors can improve their teaching skills and each TA is viewed from his or her initial level of experience and background. Suggestions are provided to improve student learning and the TA's teaching effectiveness. Consultations are considered to be extremely valuable by TAs who have participated in the program. Course ConsultationsThe Faculty Instructional Services Center provides instructors with valuable resources for improving their teaching effectiveness. Services include confidential consultation on teaching, student course assessment, videotape feedback; as well as seminars, workshops, and a clearinghouse for information about research and innovation in higher education. All of the resources of the CTD are available to faculty. Additional individualized services can also be provided. Upon request, CTD staff consult with course instructors. In the past, these consultations have dealt with articulating or modifying course goals and objectives, designing course activities, clarifying TA duties and responsibilities, and other topics and activities that enhance teaching effectiveness. Other services to faculty include seminars and workshops, audio and video taping, and an instructional resource materials center which houses books, journals, newsletters, research reports, video training tapes, and an evaluation center with a bank of evaluation items which will be accessible via computer and which can be tailored to individual and/or departmental needs.
